Portrait of Ron Caplan for Northeastern alumni magazine.

I was recently contacted by Northeastern University in Boston about photographing alumnus Ron Caplan for the cover of their alumni magazine. Ron is the founder and president of PMC Property Group in Philadelphia. We decided to meet at the location of their latest endeavor on the corner of 19th and Arch.

Here are two of my favorites from the shoot.

There is so much going on in this image that I love. The leading lines coming to an X behind him give a kind of superhero feel. In our short time together it was evident to me that Ron is a solid guy with a very cool demeanor, which I thought would be reinforced by the blue tones and the metal background.

Also a lot going on in this shot. Under Ron's direction PMC has become the largest owner of rental properties in the city of Philadelphia. With that in mind, I chose this City Hall view with various buildings as the background. Closer in, I thought the various building elements would speak toward PMC's construction aspects. Then there are the workers in the background. Aware of what we were doing they stopped and moved out of the shot for us, but I told them to get back in there and keep working. I explained to Ron that it was obvious to me that he had a connection and affection with everyone on site, and having these two in the shot pays homage in a small way to everyone's contribution. I also thought the slight red, white, and blue notes of the image was a nice touch in the birthplace of our independence.

Final note, a sincere thanks to the foreman Jeff McCallister for showing me around the property to scout locations before Ron's arrival. Much appreciated!
