Cookies.
Possibly my favorite word in the entire English Language, and I would bet I'm not alone!
Well in case any of you were wondering where I was and why I hadn't posted all weekend it was because I  was snowed in with my girlfriend watching her bake these amazing cookies.

12.15.09 Pic post theme: Past Glory

So much I love about these images. I was recently asked to venture down to historic Franklin Field, deemed to be the oldest stadium still operating for football by the NCAA. It was built for $100,000 and dedicated on April 20, 1895 for the first running of the Penn Relays. Also home of the first scoreboard ever built (that same year) as well as countless other neat sports history. How far we've come from the first scoreboard and stadium built for $100K to "Jerry's World", the billion dollar Cowboy Stadium!
Anyway, I was asked to find certain qualities that might be considered hallmarks of the Penn Relays to give as a gift to a former Penn Relay star. Of course nothing ever goes as smoothly as it should and for whatever reason this stadium, which is usually open to the public, was closed this day and I was only allowed to venture in a few feet. Ahhh, but adversity is the main ingredient in opportunity! Instead of hiking to the furthest top bleacher seat for the standard wide angled panoramic shot (as I had intended) I found a good spot for some action and went about capturing the feeling of competition, the motion of sport, and in the end the shapes of memories.

Mr. & Mrs. Claus

Tonight my girlfriend and I are celebrating an early Christmas by making Christmas punch (she better remember the Captain Morgan!), eating a red and green pizza, watching a bunch of classic Christmas movies she's been DVRing AND opening all the silly gifts my folks sent to us! Fun! We are spending the actual holiday in Arizona this year and didn't want to ship or lug a bunch of stuff back and forth... ANYWAY, in the spirit of Christmas I present Mr. & Mrs. Claus. Traditionally the last float in the San Antonio river parade, this series was actually quite difficult to shoot. Good things come to good people, or something like that ;)

Kitchen Troth 2

All the conveniences of a modern kitchen! Andrew Jackson's Tennessee home, The Hermitage, featured this very large kitchen located in an attached building. This is one half of a kitchen that would regularly employee 10 or more cooks to keep up with Jackson's famous hospitality.

Chartreuse

Finding expressions like this is what I love most about shooting weddings.

Mason (double fisting the drinks) has just been introduced to champagne with a dash or three of a very rare and very tasty chartreuse by an amazingly creative bartender friend of mine (Chris Bostick, not pictured http://www.blueprintcocktail.com) while chatting with Shawn, a whisky distiller from Virginia... good booze were drunk that day my friends!

12.04.09 Pic Post : Scudder Falls Kayakers

Well you would think that after all those years in sales I would know
to have a card on me at all times, but when you take off on your bike and think maybe you'll shoot a few fallen branches or some flowing water one doesn't expect to network. As luck would have it I came across this little group of kayakers at Scudder Falls and I have no way of getting these great shots to them. So I am throwing this out there onto the interwebs. Maybe someone will recognize or maybe they'll google Scudder falls and find me.

Groomsmen's gift

After shooting so many weddings it was nice to be in one for a change. Of course I couldn't NOT take pictures, so I took the opportunity to play with a fun little lens that I've wanted to use more at my weddings. I will probably post more here soon, but in the mean time one can see more on flickr.

The wedding was held on a beautiful fall day in Austin, TX. The groomsmen all wore tan suits and we were given these great ties... I may have a new "work uniform" ! Thank you Dalton & Kasey!

River lights

Another first of the day. In this miracle of the inter-webs I have learned to link my flickr page to my blog. Glory Be! Now the two have no need to be independent of one and other :)
